Overview of concepts of experimental methods for flow, pressure, concentration and temperature measurements. Specific advantages and limitations. ‘Classics’ (thermocouples, Pitot-tubes, hot-wire anemometry), optical techniques (shadow, Schlieren), laser techniques (Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Anemometry, Particle Imaging and Particle Tracking Velocimetry, Laser-induced Fluorescence), methods for flow visualization and high-speed imaging, experimental methods in two-phase flows, liquid crystals. Lectures will be given by experts in the field. Includes labtours and ‘hands-on’ demonstrations.
