Summary of the XXVII Fluid Mechanics Conference at Lodz University of Technology
The international XXVII Fluid Mechanics Conference — FMC 2026 organized by the Lodz University of Technology, the international XXVII Fluid Mechanics

Conference — FMC 2026, held on 23–26 June this year, confirmed the standing of this recurring event as an important forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of fluid mechanics. The event brought together over 150 participants, including more than 30 guests from abroad, and its programme covered a broad spectrum of research topics — from fundamental problems to engineering and industrial applications.
This year’s edition attracted considerable interest. A total of 124 papers from Poland and abroad were submitted to the conference and underwent review. Ultimately, 103 contributions were accepted for presentation and published in the Book of Abstracts. The high scientific quality of the programme was overseen by the International Scientific Committee, chaired by Professor Jacek Pozorski, Chairman of the Fluid Mechanics Section of the Committee for Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The invited speakers included distinguished researchers representing scientific institutions from Europe and the United States: Professor Ramis Örlü from Oslo Metropolitan Universi ty, Professor Paul G. A. Cizmas from Texas A&M University, Professor Manuel García-Villalba from TU Wien, and Professor Colm-cille P. Caulfield from the University of Cambridge. Semi-plenary lectures were delivered by Professor Paweł Flaszyński from the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk, Professor Maciej Marek from Czestochowa University of Technology, Dr Tomasz Bobiński from Warsaw University of Technology, and Dr Michał Lipian from Lodz University of Technology. An important point in the programme was also the open lecture by Professor Szymon Malinowski from the University of Warsaw, devoted to fluid dynamics in the context of the Earth’s climate.

The oral and poster presentations prepared by the conference participants contributed a wide range of research perspectives, methods, and applications to the programme. They stimulated many interesting discussions and confirmed the diversity and high standard of contemporary research in fluid mechanics. FMC 2026 created a space for the exchange of experience between representatives of different scientific institutions, generations of researchers, and both national and international communities.
An important element of the conference was the final stage of the Professor Janusz W. Elsner Competition for young researchers. This year, 17 works were submitted to the competition, from which the competition jury selected 6 papers for the final stage. The winners of the competition were: Daria Żyła-Jabłońska — first prize, Dr Lena Caban — second prize, Dr Yiqing Li — third prize.
