The annual Osborne Reynolds Day took place on the 7th July 2023. It was hosted by the University of Manchester, UK, and organized together with the UK Fluids Network. The event was dedicated to showcasing the best recently completed doctoral research projects in fluid mechanics in the UK.

The Osborne Reynolds 2023 prize was awarded to:

  • Elliott Sutton, Department of Chemical Engineering, the University of Manchester, UK, for his doctoral research project “Modelling and simulation of filling operations in the personal care and food industries”.

Two runners-up were also selected:

  • Josh Williams (School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University)
    "Modelling aerosol particle transport and deposition in patient-specific respiratory systems"
  • D​aniel Dehtyriov (Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford)
    "Flow Physics Beyond the Betz Limit"

Elliott, Josh and Daniel will now go forward as the UK candidates to the Da Vinci Competition organized by ERCOFTAC
