T​he ERCOFTAC General Assembly elected a new ERCOFTAC Chairperson for the two year tenure. The election took place on 10th October 2025 during the Autumn Festival meeting in Darmstadt, Germany.

Existing ERCOFTAC Chair, Professor Dominic von Terzi handed over the role to his successor Dr David Standingford, long-standing ERCOFTAC member whose understanding of how the organization operates, along with experience and enthusiasm, will provide a different perspective and robust leadership.

New Chairperson, Dr David Standingford, thanked to his predecessor for his outstanding leadership over the past six years:

  • navigation during the most challenging periods in recent history: the global COVID-19 pandemic,
  • adaptation and strengthening ERCOFTAC foundations by updating its governance structure to reflect modern needs and realities,
  • launching several new Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Pilot Centres, broadening our reach and relevance across the community,
  • championing diversity, equity, and inclusion within ERCOFTAC, ensuring that the role of women in fluid mechanics, turbulence, and combustion became more visible and better supported,
  • supporting a new ERCOFTAC initiative: the Milton van Dyke award
“I'm honoured to take on this leadership role at such an exciting time for ERCOFTAC. Dominic’s stewardship has left the organization in great shape - navigating us through unprecedented challenges while modernising our foundations and championing diversity. I look forward to building upon the excellent work he and the entire community have accomplished.

ERCOFTAC plays a crucial role in advancing fluid mechanics, and I am committed to fostering collaboration, supporting our members, and ensuring our association continues to thrive in the years to come." - said Dr David Standingford.

New Chair emphasized that it was both an honour and a privilege to take on the role.
