3rd SIG43 Workshop:

The third SIG43 workshop will be held in conjunction with EUROMECH Colloqium 513: "Dynamics of non-spherical particles in fluid turbulence", that will take place 6th - 8th April 2011 in Udine, Italy.

Objectives

Dynamics of non-spherical particles in fluid flow are encountered both in nature and in industrial applications, e.g. airborne solid particles or aerosols, carbon nanotubes, micro-organisms like phytoplankton, sediment-laden flows and wood-fibre suspensions.

The scope of the colloquium includes both studies and modelling of the dynamical behaviour of non-spherical particles as well as the modulation of the turbulence field brought about by the particles. The focus will be on generic aspects and physics of particulate turbulent flows, be it computer simulations, laboratory or field measurements, and theoretical studies. Among the topics to be included are:

• fibre-suspensions;         
• particle dynamics in free and wall-bounded turbulence;         
• fluid-particle interactions         
• collision modelling;         
• agglomeration;         
• advances in measurement and simulation techniques;         
• rheological modelling.

Registration

The registration fee, covering proceedings, coffe breaks and meals, is 320 Euro for for EUROMECH/ERCOFTAC members and 344 Euro for non-EUROMECH/ERCOFTAC members, with an additional fee of 30 Euro for on-site registration. A limited number of scholarship are available for PhD students and young researchers. Scholarships will be awarded only upon application.
