Particles in Flows
Summer School August 25 - 31 + Workshop August 27

The aim of the summer school is to present a comprehensive series of lectures on various aspects of problems involving particles in flows. It is organized as a multidisciplinary event with topics ranging from theoretical and numerical mathematics up to physics and applications. The emphasize will be on models related to topics originating in environmental, biomedical and industrial applications. The summer course is prepared for graduate students, young scientists, and other interested specialists. Besides of the course lectures, the program will include a one day workshop (on Wednesday, August 27) dedicated to short, more advanced lectures given by attending scientists.

Main Speakers

Main Topics

  • multiphase and bubbly flows
  • free and controlled particles in viscous fluid
  • fluid-structure interaction problems
  • forces acting on particles and droplets
  • Dissipative Particle Dynamics method
  • particle-based Lagrangian methods
  • time-periodic fluid flows
  • motion of rigid bodies in incompressible flows
  • path instabilities of falling and rising bodies

Depending on the number of applicants the exact amount of support will be announced after the application deadline. The grant will cover at least the registration fee. Those participants who will benefit from the support will be asked to present a poster showing their own scientific work. A formal application, containing short CV, motivation letter and recommendation letter, should be received by organizers before July 31, 2014. Important note: Only European citizens or foreigners with permanent residence in Europe are eligible for the support. Formal application including short CV, motivation letterand recommendation letter, should be sent to the organizers via email scientific@prague-sum.com. All applications will be reviewed in the shortest possible time after the deadline of July 31 and the applicants will be informed of the outcome. Please note that the applicants should NOT pay the registration fee until their application is decided upon. In case the application is declined, only Early fee will be charged (and ERCOFTAC members discount still applies).
