The annual Osborne Reynolds Day took place at the beginning of July 2022. It was hosted by the University of Manchester, UK, and organized together with the UK Fluids Network. The event was dedicated to showcasing the best recently completed doctoral research projects in fluid mechanics in the UK.

The Osborne Reynolds prize was awarded to:

• Dr Tianning Tang (Tim), Department of Engineering Science, the University of Oxford, UK, for his doctoral research project “On the Probability and Averaged Shape of Extreme Water Waves”.

Also two runner-ups were identified:

• Tom Hickling,Oxford Thermofluids Institute (OTI) for his work on “Computational Modelling of Rotating Cavity Flows”
• Dr Dante McGrath, the University of Cambridge, for his work on “How Sprays Burn: The Role of Fuel Droplets in Laminar Flame Propagation”

Tim, Tom and Dante will now go forward as the UK candidates to the da Vinci competition organized by ERCOFTAC
