Bio-Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer

Purpose and focus of SIG

Bio-Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer is a field that covers highly diverse subjects. Among the topics that are currently being researched by people who have previously expressed an interest in participating in this Special Interest Group are:

  • blood flow - flow in the heart, biomechanics of vascular disease, stents, microperfusion;
  • air flow in humans - nose, lungs, ear;
  • biomechanics of swimming;
  • heat transfer in humans - scalp cooling, thermoregulation
  • ocean biophysics - turbulence and plankton, vortex interaction with algae blooms;
  • bacteria - bacterial growth and flow around bacteria
